Residents young and old thoroughly enjoyed a Fun Day on Saturday 19th August. They were brought together by a pioneering pensioner Betty Beard, who was the driving force behind the organisation of the event.

Betty was nominated as a Community Champion earlier this year and rallied together volunteers from the local community with support from Denise Hudson (GBC) and Councillor Derek Kimber.  Once the idea of the fun day had been agreed, the committee of volunteers set about organising the various elements of the day  - getting raffle prizes, games for the children...and the adults!

Apart from a small shower, the sun shined down on the event, where people of all ages enjoyed inflatable pole jousting, face painting, fete games, sports events and a raffle.  The fun packed day was topped off with a children's entertainer and disco for the adults.  Betty thought all of her hard work paid off 'It went brilliantly.  We didn't finish until 10pm and everybody enjoyed themselves.  It went swimmingly.' 

The success is all down to the time and effort committed by volunteers and the power of community spirit!
